Definitely, spending a vacation biking on Lanzarote is one of the best ways to approach routes that seem to be Martian, because of the strange and whimsical forms that the petrified lava has acquired. From Papagayo Bike we offer you the rental of mountain bikes so that you can enter this fascinating world.
We can plan these routes with you, although you can also do them on your own (always following the signs and instructions), if you have already spent your holidays on Lanzarote and you know the routes.
"Pedales de lava", this circular route between volcanoes, has five stages in which you will cycle 255 km with the rental bicycle. It can be done in 3-4 days.
You have to get to Guatiza, where you will find the impressive Cactus Garden, a botanical garden, or rather a museum, which brings together more than 10,000 cactus species collected from all continents.
From Guatiza we go to Arrieta, a fishing village where we can have lunch. Then you continue to Órzola, through the malpaís (that's how the little eroded volcanic relief is called) of the La Corona volcano, and you arrive at the Jameos del Agua, an incredible intervention by the artist César Manrique.
These are sections of a volcanic tube that were left exposed because the roof collapsed. In Órzola you take the ferry to the island La Graciosa and arrive at the port of Caleta del Sebo.
You arrive at a small village of white houses that is called Pedro Barba, and in the centre of the island is the Amarilla mountain, an extinct volcano. This is the end of the road, and you will have to walk it again in the opposite direction. You can stay one night and take the first morning ferry to Órzola.
The route is full of steep descents and ascents. You descend to Teguise, to a volcanic peak next to the village, and this is the final stage of this part, as you only have to go down to Famara.
You will see hills of red, yellow and green land, accentuating the feeling of being on another planet. Several kilometers pass calmly until you reach the entrance of the park. You cycle to Playa Blanca.
Through a rocky desert you will be riding your bike, surrounded by a landscape that broadens the spirit. Puerto del Carmen is the goal, which you will reach by pedaling thanks to the rental of bicycles.
With this route we assure you an unforgettable holiday on Lanzarote.
