Cycling on Lanzarote has been a popular sport on the island for many years. The impressive landscapes, the perfect climate all year round and, of course, an infrastructure specially designed for cycling, help to achieve this.
And not only those who come to spend their holidays on Lanzarote are dedicated to this sport, also the locals have joined to cycle on the roads: it certainly means that the sport is on the rise.
The global project "Via Ciclista Lanzarote" has served to condition and improve various sections, as well as to increase them, and to guarantee the safety of both cyclists and car drivers.
On Lanzarote the most diverse cycling events have been created as a consequence of this "will", as well as the Gran Canaria Island Cycling Federation, which provides the regulations, licenses and classifications in the various events.
Cycling on Lanzarote includes the amateur and professional practice of this sport. If you are a cyclist and you decide to take a holiday on Lanzarote to attend one of these events, this is the information you need.
Please note that all these events have been postponed or suspended by Covid-19 until further notice, so you should check the calendars with the dates.
These trials are for both female and male categories, in categories ranging from Cadets, Elite and U23 to Master 60.
For the three stages the categories are the same, from Junior (17 and 18 years old) to Master 50/60 (50 to 75 years old), men and women, and the prizes are both in cash and with trophies.
There are trials that cross Fuerteventura on MTB, where the professionals have to do the route in one day and the amateurs in two.
There are "international weeks" for bike races, and these are a bit more demanding, as you have to maintain a speed between 24 and 30 km/h and pedal for 3 hours every day.
But even your holiday on Lanzarote benefits from a Bike Week, where you can train freely. This is usually in January.
